| Marketing is the promotion of a person, place, thing, service or idea in such a way that it convinces someone, or ideally, multiple people, to accept an opinion of that person, place, thing, service or idea. This encompasses a wide variety of techniques including advertising, word-of-mouth, mailing, e-mailing, faxing, the use of media, and many other strategies. Most often, marketing is used to sell a product or to solicit money, and that is what most people associate the term “marketing” with. Note, though, that marketing is also used in politics to gain support, by organizations to raise awareness, and you could even say that we all use marketing techniques in our daily lives in situations such as applying for jobs. Marketing is truly as old as argument itself, and at its core, marketing is not a difficult concept to understand. |
